This week was ‘aging curve week.’ First, we looked at pitcher strikeouts and found out that pitchers debut with about as much strikeout punch as they’ll ever show, falling off a peak range that ends at 25. Then we took on the hitters and found that while many skill-based numbers — strikeouts ,walks, and ground balls — peak from 25-28, power seems to peak at 25 and go down from there. So it looks like two big things — strikeouts and power — peak earlier than we thought!
Regarding my Mets scoop, I did a back-and-forth with Daniel Lewis at Amazin Avenue and I think we did a good job of delineating the pessimistic and optimistic viewpoints on the current Mets financial crises. Then I went on the Mostly Mets podcast to talk about it some more. I’m ready for actual baseball on the field and stuff.
If you’d rather have a little fun, I did a beer review of Jingu Park in Tokyo. It’s mostly a piece about the differences between the Japanese and American baseball experience, but there’s some beer in there. Oh and while I was doing this, I tagged all my beer posts on NotGraphs, so you can get all my baseball and beer stuff right here.
