Hops in the Ground

We planted some Willamette hops in the backyard today. It’s mostly an aroma hops — apparently bittering hops are much harder to grow — but it will be cool to include our own fresh hops in a beer.

In the meantime, we did what I hope is our last mini-mash — a pale ale with cascade and willamette hops. This time, we made many fewer mistakes, and we have all the materials and tools we needed.

We even kept notes — except I used a permanent marker on the white erase board. Whoops. Jill’s Permanent Pale is what we called it.
