Hawaii Bases Ball

In Hawaii on a work/family/vacation hybrid thing. Not as restful as it sounds! This week I’ll take a little more time off, but last week was a full week. And sometime this week I’ll do a little piece on the beers I’ve had in Hawaii — mostly how great New Zealand beers are.

It was rankings week on RotoGraphs, for one. Rankings week is always full of vitriol — hair-pulling readers talking about how dumb we must be fill the comments section with their quick reactions. It’s fine, and it’s good for ratings, but it’s exhausting and I’m always glad when it’s done.

For the front page, I wrote about how the Yankees have (sort of) fired a couple (sort of) employees to (sort of) protect the feelings of Alex Rodriguez. It just seems like business as usual — team employees talking trash about team assets seems like bad marketing no matter the names involved. Then I wrote about how the Mariners are considering demoting first baseman Justin Smoak and how bad Smoak has been, in a piece that maybe I shouldn’t have titled “Smoak Out?“.

I had just a second of time to give Von Hayes some tips for his LinkedIn page, and write about hard-hit balls for Getting Blanked. (That one comes with a bonafide second-half sleeper.)

About enosarris

I write. About baseball, mostly, but also about the anthropology of sports, travel, cooking and sometimes music. But yeah, baseball mostly.
