New Year’s Base Ball

Happy New Year! Is it too early to say it? This will certainly be the least raucous new years of my adulthood, with a small chance I’m in bed before midnight here on the West Coast. I remember celebrating “German New Years” with my mom all those years at 6pm ET, so maybe we’ll just keep that going and have a toast at 3pm New Year’s Eve. It’s beer time somewhere!

Tried to help our fearless leader, Dave Cameron, as he was out on vacation and wrote a couple pieces during one of the least busy weeks on the baseball calendar. You do weird things when there’s no news. In a bit of a survey piece, I pulled together all the research on the different pitches and how bad they are for your arm, and had a — perhaps funny — conclusion about pitching in general.

Also ended up having to write about why Michael Bourn hasn’t been signed yet — seriously, he’s got skills in his package of defense, patience, and speed — and handicapping the Joel Hanrahan trade to Boston. Basically, if any of the lotto tickets sent to the Pirates work out, the trade will be a solid win for Pittsburgh.
For fantasy, I took a look at Jose Veras in Milwaukee, Jason Grilli in Pittsburgh, and Ryan Kalish in Boston. All deep league sleepers if you ask me.

And last but not least, new Oakland shortstop Hiroyuki Nakajimain a sexy time video.

About enosarris

I write. About baseball, mostly, but also about the anthropology of sports, travel, cooking and sometimes music. But yeah, baseball mostly.
